Mission Statement
Top Box Foods is a community nonprofit with a simple purpose: to build equitable access to fresh, healthy, high-quality foods for all. We partner with local churches, community organizations, public housing, senior centers, and Chicago Public Schools who serve constituents in Chicago's underserved communities to offer healthy food at an average of 40% off the retail price.
Description
We're a community nonprofit that helps create equitable access to quality, healthy groceries for all. We were founded on an innovative model of selling fresh produce and nutritious proteins at prices below traditional retail through a network of community partners from religious centers to housing organizations to healthcare providers. Our partners help their community eat well and save money, and 5% of partner referral sales are donated directly back to that community organization.
In response to the unprecedented rates of food insecurity caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we transformed our model to a no-fee delivery program of nutritious and affordable foods right to the doors of households all over the Chicagoland city and suburbs - one of only three grocery delivery options available to recipients of SNAP. Then, we created our Food Share model to allow us to use our expertise and resources to partner with organizations looking to provide food support for their communities through both home deliveries and community food distributions. Our volunteer-powered contactless home grocery deliveries directly address the widespread societal issues of hunger, malnutrition and related health problems, driven by inadequate access to quality, nutritional food options, otherwise known as food deserts and food swamps. In 2020, we served 91,620 households. The need is still great, and we need your help. Sign up to volunteer with Top Box Foods today!
