The Salvation Army San Gabriel's Youth Learning Center provides homework support for elementary and junior high students, primarily from low-income households. This is a great volunteer opportunity for High school or college students who are looking to fulfill community service hours and sharpen skills for their future career. Also for retired adults who are looking to contribute their wisdom and experience to serve their community

Learning Center Schedule:
School Year - Weekdays, 2:30 - 6:00pm
Summer Program - Weekdays, 1:00 - 6:00pm

Volunteer Responsibilities:
Tutor elementary to junior high students on various subjects
Develop student reading skills and assist with homework
Check workbooks and help students make and understand corrections

Volunteer Requirements:
Able to work well with children
Strong background in Math and English (up to 8th grade level)
High School volunteers should have a Minimum of 3.0 GPA

Volunteers are ideally available to serve at least one afternoon per week.

Additional information:
Candidates will be interviewed by our Youth Learning Center Director. Volunteers must complete initial screening and training before working with children.
All volunteers will be issued a certificate for completed hours. We may also write letters of recommendation for exceptional volunteers.
