Become a Friendly Neighbor to older and challenged adults living in Central Indiana! Volunteers visits to nursing and senior homes, as well as private residences to play games, read, run a quick errand or just say hello!

Specific tasks will be determined between the volunteer and the direct supervisor. Families First hopes that Vista Volunteers can make visits weekly or bi-weekly. This position is flexible and the need is ongoing!

Families First’s Older and Challenged Adult program is prepared to meet the community’s growing need for care giving support services. Our team of professional counselors and homemakers provide compassionate, supportive care to protect the well-being of vulnerable adults, enabling them to achieve the highest degree of independence and quality of life possible.

Older and Challenged Adult services are available to:

  • Adults 18 years and older who live in Marion County and need in-home counseling, case management, and homemaker support
  • People at risk of abuse, neglect, exploitation or premature institutional placement
  • Adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities, chronic mental illness, and cognitive challenges

Description

Services include individual, marital and family counseling; domestic violence treatment groups for victims, batterers and children; chemical dependency treatment programs; counseling and homemaker services for elderly; protective care services for Marion County residents with mental illness, disability or age-related challenges; family, parent and community education; counseling and support for relative caregivers; and a family strengthening program for school-aged children and their families.
