Business Impact NW (BIN) is one of the leading non-profit community development financial and business assistance organizations in the Pacific Northwest. The mission of BIN is to promote the economic development of marginalized communities by offering access to capital, training and support to help small businesses grow and thrive.
BIN is currently looking for an volunteer to collaborate with all levels of BIN staff and assist with real projects that help us grow. We offer a dynamic work environment for interns who crave learning new skills and aren't afraid to tackle big challenges. Interns will gain a wide breadth of experience with community development finance and operations. This includes exposure to a variety of federal and nonfederal lending requirements, and basic credit & financial analyses.
Skills and Qualifications
Our ideal candidate is someone who is highly independent, proactive and detail-oriented. The volunteers should also be flexible and able to work well with a diverse staff, while producing high quality deliverables on time.
We are looking for someone who is interested in small businesses and community development and wants to say that they contributed and/or created a tangible product while volunteering. All BIN staff are required to be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
Major Responsibilities
Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to the following:
- Assist staff with internal systems, applications, and databases, including organizational and analytical tools.
- Assisting in the loan closing process,
- Routine information management and filing
- Attending occasional site visits with Loan Officers
- Research loan performance data and enter data into risk management system.
All volunteer work is unpaid and will take place in BIN’s Seattle International District office. Schedules need to be fairly consistent on a weekly basis with a minimum time commitment of 5 hours/week

Description
At Business Impact NW, we provide comprehensive assistance in three ways:
- Technical Assistance- our trained counselors help small businesses with all aspects of starting and running a small business, including marketing, management, finance and strategic planning. We also help clients with their business plans, cash flow projections and loan applications.
- Training- our training programs are designed specifically for entrepreneurs.
- Loans - we offer financing to qualified small businesses and start-ups through our small business loan program.
