The Sun Valley Youth Center is a nonprofit youth center located in Denver. We offer a variety of programs to the children of the Sun Valley neighborhood to aid in their social, emotional, and physical development. We aim to holistically meet the needs of our kids while providing a safe and nurturing environment for them to learn and grow.

We are looking for music teachers to help our kids in 1:1 lessons. We have 3 different instruments that we are looking to teach, so if you would be able to help in one (or more) of them, we'd love your help! The instruments are guitar, ukulele, and piano. Mission & Purpose:

Mission of SVYC: Empowering youth, family, and community to reach their greatest potential.

Purpose: Music Lessons allow students to explore and practice musical talents.

Responsibilities & Specific Duties:
  • Check-in with Volunteer Coordinator often
  • Show up on time to sessions
  • Meet with youth once a week for lessons (communicate as needed for absences)
  • Complete surveys
  • Serve as a role model for youth
  • Build positive relationship with youth through connection
  • Help youth set/accomplish goals
  • Log hours on galaxy after each session
Qualifications:
  • Experience with playing guitar, drums, or ukulele
  • Dependable, consistent, patient, and communicative
  • Willing to respect and maintain the confidentiality of SVYC's youth
  • Willing to work with youth of different backgrounds, cultures, etc
  • Willing to follow all program policies and procedure
  • Able to pass a background check
Time Commitment:

1 hr/week

Training & Support Provided:

Attend initial volunteer training with Volunteer Coordinator.

Supervision & Support will be from Diamond. Other staff in the program will step in as needed.

The Sun Valley Youth Center is a licensed child care operation that operates during the school year as well as no-school days, school holidays, and summer break located in the inner-city of west Denver. Sun Valley Youth Center is a Christian faith based 501c3 nonprofit that has been operating since 1999. We are an inclusive organization with a commitment to human rights, dignity of the individual, and social justice. We welcome anyone, regardless of faith or belief system, who shares our goals for the community. We are open Mon-Fri from 2-7 pm, and 8-6 when the kids are out of school. We offer a variety of programs to the children of the Sun Valley neighborhood to aid in their social, emotional, and physical development. We aim to holistically meet the needs of our kids while providing a safe and nurturing environment for them to learn and grow. We provide 1:1 tutoring/mentoring, group tutoring, arts and crafts, sports and recreation, 1:1 and group counseling, computer classes, snacks, and more.
