Purpose:

O’Farrell Family Support Services is a collaborative effort between O’Farrell Charter School and SAY San Diego. We are looking for a wonderful volunteer who will be able to provide Nutrition Education to a group of O’Farrell students beginning in April. Educating youth on nutrition can be a healthy activity and it’s one of the ways we address the social, emotional and economic needs of O’Farrell students and their families.

Start Date-End Date:

As early as March 2017 for 2-4 months or one semester (can volunteer for longer if available).

Key Responsibilities:

~Plan and prepare for teaching lessons which can include the use of interactive displays, food samples, games, activities, and handouts

~Prepare a written lesson plan that conforms to program guidelines, are age appropriate, and is based on the needs of the participants

~Shop for food/demonstration supplies (if needed), prepare the food samples or foods for use in the demonstration, pick recipes and/or other supplies needed for the lesson

~Use skills and creativity to come up with new fresh ways to use existing resources in their teaching events and lessons

~Build trusting relationships in order to foster learning and change

Qualifications:

~Must be at least 18 years old

~Must be cleared through TB test, drug test, background check

~Will be asked to provide references

~Must have reliable transportation

Time Commitment:

1 - 4 hours per week (including lesson prep) Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays or Fridays from either 3:00pm-4:00pm, 4:00pm-5:00pm or Wednesdays 1:00pm-2:00pm or 2:00pm-3:00pm
