Have you always wanted to spend part of your summer down by the River, meeting new people, and educating your neighbors about our hometown river? Then consider becoming a River Center Guide at the River Center at Lock 8!
We ask our Guides to dedicate four hours a month to staff our River Center in a historic lockhouse in the C&O Canal National Historical Park in Cabin John, Maryland. As a Guide, you will spend two-hour shifts leading interactive activities that will educate visitors about the ecology of the Potomac River Basin and conservation successes and challenges, answering questions about the historic canal and lockhouse, and educating visitors about conservations activities/programs of the Potomac Conservancy.
The River Center is open from the first weekend of May to the last weekend of October. Shifts are 10am-12pm and 12pm-2pm on Saturdays and Sundays. You must be 18 years old or older, or have parental supervision during shifts, to volunteer as a River Center Guide. For more information on this special volunteer opportunity and to sign up for the training on April 15 th , 2017, contact Joelle Boyle at firstname.lastname@example.org .
