HONEYSUCKLE HACKATHON STARTS MARCH 6 IN KIRKWOOD PARK! More than 33 acres of Kirkwood Park is invaded with bush honeysuckle. This plant deprives native plants and wildlife of nutritional food and a healthy habitat. To restore the wooded areas in the park, the Kirkwood Parks Assistance Corps (KPAC) will host a five-day "Honeysuckle Hackathon" to clear the northern side of the park, bordering West Adams Avenue. The goal is to free the entire park of invasive bush honeysuckle this year. Volunteering your time is one of the many ways to stop this invasive bush from spreading.
Hackathon volunteers are needed Monday through Friday, March 6-10. Volunteers can sign up for shifts of two hours, or more. A celebration in the park will close the Hackathon on Friday, March 10. KPAC will partner on the Hackathon with Honeysuckle Sweep Week, BiodiverseCity St. Louis, Missouri Invasive Plant Task Force, and Enemy of the State/Stop-Honeysuckle.org.
Visit www.kirkwoodmo.org/hackathon or call 314-984-5993 for more information or to volunteer.
