ADOPTION PRE-APPROVAL/MATCH-MAKING COORDINATOR

What we need: An organized, reliable, and passionate individual to lead our adoption pre-approval efforts. This role entails managing a small team of Adoption Pre-approval Coordinators and assigning adoption applications to them (as well as processing some directly). Most critical in this role is having a leader who can coordinate effectively with fosters and our Lead Adoption Coordinator, as well as the team of Adoption Coordinators.

Qualifications/Requirements: No experience necessary (we will train you!), but experience in recruiting and/or managing a team is always helpful. You need to know how to inspire and motivate a team, while making them feel valued. Communicating well is also critical since there may be numerous volunteers to coordinate with in order to match a preapproved adopter with a suitable dog or cat. Ideally, you will have a minimum of 3-5 hours per week to dedicate to this important role.

What DC PAWS provides : We provide training as well as a guide to the Adoption Screening process.

How does the process work: Sometimes we receive applications from prospective adopters who don’t see an animal they want to adopt, but they want to be pre-approved to adopt so they are prepared when the right dog or cat comes along. Your team will process these applications. In addition, it is common for the same animal to receive numerous applications; since there can only be one adopter, some of the other strong applicants may wish to be pre-approved for next time. You will regularly review the list of pre-approved applicants and identify potential matches with animals as we rescue new animals. You will also ensure that adoption event coordinators have current lists of pre-approved adopters in case they come to the adoption event and meet an animal they wish to adopt.

How we are different than other rescues: We are committed to 100% positive reinforcement and have a supportive training and enrichment program for our volunteers.

Why you should become a ADOPTION PRE-APPROVAL/MATCH-MAKING COORDINATOR: As an all-volunteer rescue, we rely heavily upon our volunteers and need to ensure they are properly resourced and supported. Because we get so many adoption applications for each animal, we want to ensure we don’t lose potential adopters if they missed out on the animal they wanted to adopt initially.

To explore this opportunity further, please complete a volunteer questionnaire and indicate you are interested in serving as the Adoption Pre-Approval/Match-Making Coordinator.

About DC PAWS Rescue

DC PAWS Rescue is an all-volunteer, foster-based 501c3 rescue that saves stray, neglected, unwanted and abused animals from rural animal control facilities and places them in safe and loving foster and adoptive homes in the Washington, DC area.

We believe there is more to rescue than placing shelter animals into forever homes. We believe that rescue should support the people who support the rescue, and support the needs of the dogs and cats on their journey to a forever home.
