What we need: Organized, reliable, and personable individuals to assist us with screening and approving Fosters for our rescue.
Qualifications/Requirements: No experience necessary (we will train you!), but recruiting experience is always helpful. You need the ability to respond to prospective Fosters assigned to you within 24-48 hours. Ideally, you will have a minimum of 2-4 hours a week to dedicate to screening.
What DC PAWS provides : We provide training as well as a guide to the Foster Screening process. We have rescue software that minimizes data entry.
How does the process work: Once a Foster application is assigned to you, you will contact the applicant’s vet to confirm their animals (if any) are fully vetted and vaccinated, and complete a landlord check (if applicable) to confirm that pets are allowed and determine if there are any size or breed restrictions. You will then set up a phone call with the applicant to walk through the responsibilities and requirements for fostering and answer any questions. Finally, you will recruit a DC PAWS volunteer to conduct a home visit to ensure the foster’s home is safe and appropriate for a foster animal.
How we are different than other rescues: We are committed to 100% positive reinforcement and have a supportive training and enrichment program for our volunteers.
Why you should become a Foster Screener: As a foster-based rescue, foster families are our lifeblood and we never have enough foster homes. We receive steady interest in fostering and need to expand our foster team so that we can approve and on-board fosters more efficiently.
To explore this opportunity further, please complete a volunteer questionnaire and indicate you are interested in being a part of the Foster Screening Team.
About DC PAWS Rescue
DC PAWS Rescue is an all-volunteer, foster-based 501c3 rescue that saves stray, neglected, unwanted and abused animals from rural animal control facilities and places them in safe and loving foster and adoptive homes in the Washington, DC area.
We believe there is more to rescue than placing shelter animals into forever homes. We believe that rescue should support the people who support the rescue, and support the needs of the dogs and cats on their journey to a forever home.
