The Vietnamese Association of Illinois (VAI) focuses on serving diverse communities, fostering unity, and promoting Vietnamese American identity. One of the core principles addressed with this volunteer opportunity include assisting people through educational programs.

Volunteer ESL Tutor

Volunteers will assist 1:1 or a small group to learn the English language in a comfortable setting.

Responsibilities include:

This can include tutoring students at low and intermediate levels (materials provided). You will figure out your best fit with program manager.

Qualifications/skills

Patience is a must

Ability to speak, read and write English

Dependable and prompt to meet with your students

Respectful of different cultures

Time Commitment:Flexible hours; 45 minutes of tutoring once a week.

Description

RSVP members may choose from a list of agencies in Chicago that have a signed agreement with the RSVP office. Volunteer assignments are made according to volunteers’ skills and interests and the needs of the stations.

Each volunteer position has different time requirements. RSVP strives to help you find opportunities that match your interest and scheduling needs. You will then work with your station supervisor to finalize your schedule. This will include time for orientation and training.
