PLACEMENT PURPOSE
The Pillowcase Project is a national youth preparedness program offered by Red Cross regions across the country. The 40-60 minute presentation provides emergency preparedness education to youth in grades 3-5 (ages 8-11) in school classrooms and other settings. Numerous tools have been developed for this program including a standardized curriculum, workbook, quizzes and activities which have been carefully constructed with the help of curriculum and hazard experts. Many tools for presenters have been developed to foster consistency and fidelity to the program goals and objectives. The highly interactive presentation addresses home fire safety, a local natural hazard, psycho-social coping skills and household preparedness steps like making a plan and a kit. The Pillowcase Project Trainer will support the development of Pillowcase Project Presenters and Presentation Assistants through providing instructor led training of The Pillowcase Project Presenter Fundamentals course.

OPEN TIME DAYS

Trainers should initially dedicate a minimum of 7-9 hours to complete Basic Instructor Fundamentals and The Pillowcase Project Presenter Fundamentals Modules 1 and 2.
Trainers should dedicate a minimum of 6-7 hours in order to train Pillowcase Presenters and Presentation Assistants to⦆ present The Pillowcase Project curriculum proficiently.
Should the trainer choose to present to student audiences, it is important to note that each presentation requires a 2 hour time commitment per presentation: ⦆ (1 hour presentation plus time for set-up and clean up). This does not include travel time to presentation site. Presenters may be required to attend, either by phone or in person, regional sponsored meetings, check-ins, conference calls, to discuss program updates, changes, and/or issues (at the discretion of the Regional Pillowcase Program Manager).

REQUIRED TRAINING
• Basic Instructor Fundamentals (BIF), 60-75 minutes on-line course
• The Pillowcase Project Presenter Fundamentals Module 1 (web-base or instructor led)
• The Pillowcase Project Presenter Fundamentals Module 2 (in person teach-backs)

• Basic Instructor Specialty Training (Recommended)
• Disaster Services: An Overview (Recommended)
• Psychological First Aid (Recommended)
• Other region specific training (Recommended)
