Membership is open to any person st least 16 years old who can complete a criminal background check, fire-rescue physical examination, and is willing to undergo the intensive training to become an EMT. We are the busiest fire-rescue station in Montgomery County, MD and ask a lot of our volunteers. You will be on duty at least 60 hours per month.

You will receive free training to become an Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, or Firefighter.

The Mission of the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad is to protect the public’s health and safety in partnership with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service. We are a volunteer, not-for-profit corporation that provides emergency services to any person in need.

Description

The Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad (WVRS) is a Guidestar Platinum-rated not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation that protects the public’s health and safety in partnership with the Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service. Last year the WVRS’ 135 EMTs, paramedics, and firefighters volunteered over 90,000 hours while responding to over 10,000 emergency calls.

The WVRS was formed in 1955, and has served the community of Wheaton and surrounding areas of Montgomery County for over 40 years.

Each member volunteers his or her own time one night a week from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. and one day every fourth weekend. The station is staffed entirely by volunteers on nights and weekends.
