PLACEMENT PURPOSE
The Disaster Health Services volunteer provides assistance to meet client’s disaster-caused emergency health needs such as medications, medical equipment, treatment and health recovery information
OPEN TIME DAYS
Monthly Time Commitment: minimum of 10 hours per month, but a lead could spend 40 hours a month if they wanted! In times of disaster, much more may be needed
To start out (all courses free of charge):
* Orientation to the American Red Cross (online self-study)
* CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (6.5 hour classroom or 3 hour blended learning) (American Heart Association accepted) To become a Disaster Health Services Service Associate (all courses free of charge):
* Client Assistance Cards: Caseworkers (2 hour online self-study)
* Client Casework: Providing Emergency Assistance (9 hour classroom)
* Health Services Response Workshop (3.5 hour classroom)
To become a Supervisor (all courses free of charge):
* CAS: Create a Client Case (1 hour online self-study)
* CAS: Needs and Assistance (1 hour online self-study)
* CAS: Supervisors Report (1 hour online self-study)
* Disaster Frontline Supervision & Simulation (8 hour classroom)
* Disaster Operations Control: Form 5266 Fundamentals (75 minute online self-study)
* Psychological First Aid (4 hour classroom)
* Safe & Well Linking Overview (1.5 hour classroom)
* Shelter Fundamentals (4 hour classroom)
