About

PLACEMENT PURPOSE
Within established policies and procedures, ensure team response to provide adequate response to single family fires and support the initiation of response to a larger incident.

OPEN TIME DAYS

Three (3) shifts avialable: days, evenings and ⦆weekends.

On-call at least two times a month with another team member.

Day shift , Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm. The exact amount of hours of commitment varies as disaster events are unpredictable and often happen in waves (e.g. lots of calls one week then none for a couple of weeks.)

Evening shifts, Monday-Thursday (4:30pm - 8:30am the next business day).

Evening shift before a holiday will also include the entire holiday until the next business day. Calls may be received anytime throughout the evening and midnight hours. The exact amount of hours of commitment varies as disaster events are unpredictable and often happen in waves (e.g. lots of calls one week then none for a couple of weeks.)

Weekend shifts begin on Friday evening⦆4:30 pm and⦆include the entire weekend until Monday at 8:30am

Calls may be received at all hours throughout the weekend. The exact amount of hours of commitment varies as disaster events are unpredictable and often happen in waves (e.g. lots of calls one week then none for a couple of weeks.)

REQUIRED TRAINING

While no formal minimum education level is established, you must be able to read and write in English, and do basic mathematics. If you have difficulty in any of these areas, please notify a paid staff member. We may be able to assist you in building your skills or find skill appropriate tasks

Completion of volunteer application, New Employee and Volunteer Orientation (2 hrs) and Chapter Response to Disaster (8 hr) chapter developed workshop, and Disaster Services: An Overview (3.5 hrs) classroom course

Familiarity with Red Cross policies, regulations, and procedures and that chapter's disaster plan

When available, encourage your taking Working with Total Diversity (8 hrs) , Client Casework: Providing Emergency Assistance (8 hrs), Shelter Operation (4 hrs) and Shelter Simulation (4 hr) classroom courses
