Emancipation Initiative- The Push for Inclusion

Emancipation Initiative is currently looking for participants for our Constructive Correspondence Effort (C.C.E.) Project.

What is C.C.E.?

C.C.E. is a new program through Emancipation Initiative, in which we are connecting prisoners, who have upcoming parole hearings within the next 18 months to two years with citizen participants. Selected prisoners wil be those who have accomplished remarkable feats (G.E.D., Bachelor's Degree, Trade etc) throughout their incarceration, but no longer have the eternal support to advocate on their behalf at their prospective parole hearings. The function of C.C.E. establishes a familiarity between prisoner and participant, in which the participant will discern whether prisoners have met specific personal qualifications thrughout the C.C.E. process that will inform a low-likelihood of recidivism in which case, the goal would be for the participant to author a letter of reccomendation on behalf of their shared-experiences throughout E.I.'s C.C.E. process.

Mission Statement

The Emancipation Initiative is a group of community members and students in Massachusetts that engages the community and local residents in a legislative, participatory planning events. The project derives from the growing concern of community members, community-based organizations, local government agencies, and families regarding long term and limitless prison sentences sanctioned through state legislature. In effect, this communal grievance has fueled the initial inspiration for participants to develop a plan for addressing the problem and for identifying its key issues through the organization of such initiative. TAKING ACTION The purpose of organizing this public forum relating to long term and life without parole (LWOP) sentences is to work cooperatively to set goals, explore alternatives, and develop strategic plans of action that outline processes and set forth strategies agreed upon by local residents.
