Description:
- New Knowledge Adventures (NKA) is a collaboration with the YMCA, AARP, and ISU-Meridian to provide an adult learning experience for those 50 years and older. It offers seniors a variety of one-time classes in subjects ranging from cultural arts to health and wellness, general interest, history, and more. To participate, seniors pay a $35 membership fee/semester and can take as many classes as they wish. Classes are typically one to two hours long and are taught by volunteers as well as staff of the collaborating organizations. Seniors enjoy a stimulating experience, make new friends, and find new interests.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as Y Host to NKA members participating in a Y-NKA class
- Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to get attendance list. Return completed sign-in sheet to the Volunteer Coordinator after the class.
- Coordinate with Membership to schedule a tour at the end of class
- Coordinate with the Front Desk to direct NKA participants to class location
- Welcome participants and let them know where to find water and bathrooms.
- Take attendance and introduce the instructor.
- Encourage participants to take a tour and connect them to a tour guide if they are interested.
Time Commitment
- 1-5 hrs per month, depending on number of classes
Requirements - (Age & Certification Requirements)
- Background Check
- Must be 18 or older
- Candidates will be interviewed by staff, and ideal candidates will move on to next steps
- CPR Certification not required but beneficial
