The Health Fair will be on Saturday, April 29th at Akwaaba Hall, 7911 MacArthur Blvd., Oakland, CA from 11 am - 4 pm.

Did you know that African people in Alameda County have the lowest life expectancy of any group at 74.7 years of age? We want to take this on! We need your help!

  • African people have the highest rates of death from all cancers of anyone in Alameda County.
  • African people have the second highest rates of death from heart diseases, stroke and chronic lower respiratory diseases than anyone in Alameda County second to Pacific Islanders.
  • African men as a group have an even lower life expectancy at 71.1 years. Versus life expectancy in Piedmont at 86.7 years.
  • African people experience the most premature death of any group in Alameda County, by far.
  • African Americans have low birth weight rates almost twice as high as the county average and much higher than any other racial/ethnic group.
Compared to a white child in the Oakland Hills, an African child in West Oakland is:
  • 2 times more likely to be a low birth weight
  • 13 times more likely to live in poverty
  • 4 times less likely to read at grade level
  • 5 times more likely to be unemployed as an adult
  • 3 times more likely to die of stroke as an adult

You can MAKE A DIFFERENCE by:

  • Creating compelling social media content
  • Distributing content through various social media channels
  • Posting event notices on media outlet calendars and free community event calendars online
  • Engaging your social media community to partipate

We will provide the training, experience is not necessary but is appreciated! Contact us to sign up today and help the African People's Education and Defense Fund put the power of health and healthcare in the hands of the African community.

Have fun, meet new people, make a difference! Contact us today!
