Call for MAWS Conference Volunteers!

MAWS is excited to celebrate the International Day of the Midwife with our conference on May 5th. We also have a pre-conference showcasing practical skills on May 4th. This will be our only conference in 2017 , so don't miss out!

Conference will be held at Court House Square in Tacoma, WA.

Volunteers NEEDED day of conference for:

*Logistics, setting up, cleaning up, registration, midwifery ambassadors, workshop support, food movement, etc.

Volunteers NEEDED BEFORE the conference.
LEADERSHIP and planning positions available:

*Facebook Marketing
*Vendor/sponsor outreach
*Gathering bowls (30 minutes granted per bowl). Need a team lead.
*Fundraising and donations sourcing. As a non-profit 503(c)(6), MAWS always needs funding to continue strong advocacy efforts.
*Workshop facilitator support. Find facilitators, orient facilitators day of conference.
*Suturing workshop requires meat donations. Food quality not required. Already have a volunteer but she may re-locate for practicum. Need someone to gather, store, and deliver meat to conference.
*Keynote/plenary speaker support. Orient speakers day of conference.
*Post-event gratitude dinner planning
*Packet stuffing party
*Catering support (if you don't want to participate in the conference itself, you can help before and after with moving food, but priority will be given to those who want to partake in the entire event.)
*Special gratitude project (TOP SECRET if you choose to accept!)

Why help MAWS?
*Legislative efforts to increase birth center facility fee reimbursement (still in progress).
*Helped coordinate the Breastfeeding Friendly Birth Center campaign with the DOH.
*Member database
*Conference CEUs
*Advocated for increased Medicaid reimbursement for the birth center facility fee.
*Successfully lobbied for a budget proviso directing the Health Care Authority (HCA) to review its methodology for setting the Medicaid reimbursement rate for the birth center facility fee.
*There are currently 168 LMs in WA State; an increase of 40% since the passage of HB 1773 in 2014 (!). *Worked with the Midwifery Program Manager at the Department of Health on the rules language necessary to implement the provisions of HB 1773 (creating a bridge between the CPM credential and licensure in WA State; mandatory peer review, continuing education, and data collection).
