On July 26, 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law and discrimination against people with disabilities became illegal. In 1980, The Western New York Independent Living Project, Inc. opened its doors at 3108 Main Street and began providing programs and services for all people with disabilities throughout all eight counties of WNY. With all the services provided throughout the years, we have reached a time to Celebrate the 27th Anniversary of the ADA becoming a law!
Therefore, Western New York Independent Living, Inc. and many community organizations will be celebrating this important occasion on Saturday, July 22, 2016 at Coca-Cola Field! In recognition of this and to raise awareness, WNY Independent Living, Inc. as a family of agencies, along with many community partners including the Erie County Office for the Disabled, Adaptive Water Sports, and many more, will be hosting the celebration. During this celebration, we will be holding WNY Independent Living's Second Disability Pride Parade around the in Downtown Buffalo. The parade will commence at 10:30 a.m., and wind through downtown to end at Coca-Cola Field. After the Parade, we will be having an award ceremony for the following awards at 12:30 p.m. from the Stage in the VIP Section at Coca-Cola Field:
- Top Marching Band (3)
- Top Dancing Group/Troupe (3)
- Top Float Demonstrating Theme (3)
- Top Individual Demonstrating Theme (3)
- Most Creative Participant which Demonstrates the Theme
Theme: Disability Pride -People Being People, Together
Admission is free and open to all persons with and without disabilities. WNY Independent Living, Inc. and our community partners expect over 1200+ participants and have many local agencies collaborating with this event in making this a success. There will be live entertainment, fun activies, and free food!!
