Imagine that you live in the most impoverished community in your state. You’re raising your family on just 15K a year, but somehow you are managing to make ends meet. Now imagine losing everything you have in an unexpected flood. Imagine you find the grit and the drive to rebuild and start again. You fight through the trauma, pick up the pieces, secure the materials and help to repair your home, and work hard to get your family back on their feet. It takes nearly a year and a half but you are back in your home and struggling to reclaim some normalcy in your life. Now imagine that 6 short months after you’ve moved back into your home, a scant 2 years since you lost it all, you lose it all again in another violent flood. The despair is crushing. You used every resource that you had in the first recovery, what will you do now?

This has become the reality for many families in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence. It will take years to recover. Good News Project has sent teams to Lumberton, NC to aid in recover efforts for the last two years and 2019 will be no exception. Join our team in March and help this community find hope again.

We have space left for volunteers looking to travel to Lumberton, North Carolina to help with hurricane recovery efforts. Our group will arrive in Lumberton on October 6th. The participation fees (which include double-occupancy accommodations at the Fairfield Inn, all meals while volunteering, and transportation during the week) are $500, completely tax deductible under #170 of the IRS code. The groups will take part in various tasks which could include 'mucking out houses' to prepare them for drying out and in re-construction of those houses, home repairs, painting, etc. Do you have construction skills? Are you an avid home remodeler? How about a demolition 'expert'? Do you have the physical ability to help where needed? If any of these apply to you, please consider applying with us.
