Prairie Workday with Shirley Heinze Land Trust

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Shirley Heinze Land Trust

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Join us on Saturday, February 25th for a volunteer workday at Cressmoor Prairie in Hobart. This preserve contains areas of high quality remnant tallgrass black-soil prairie, which is home to rare native plants and insects. Our stewardship staff has been working hard to maintain the biodiversity found here.

We need volunteers to help us move and stack piles of already-cut brush and logs. The work requires no special skills and is the type of project where many hands make light work. There are logs and branches of all sizes, so all ages are welcome! Groups are welcome.

What you should bring:
Wear good sturdy shoes for hiking and working outdoors. Depending on recent weather conditions areas may be wet and muddy. Wear appropriate work clothing to stay warm, as you will likely get dirty. Bring your own snacks and drinks if desired. (water will be provided). Bring friends and family, good conversation, and a positive attitude.

What we will have: We will provide drinking water, gloves, and safety glasses. You are welcome to bring your own gloves and glasses if you prefer something particular. We will have a basic first aid kit on site. There are no indoor facilities or restrooms on site.

Cancellations: If you have provided contact information with your RSVP we will contact you in the case of emergencies or adverse weather conditions that may cause for the workday to be cancelled.

RSVPs are required. For more information or to RSVP, please contact Volunteer Coordinator Katy Crass at volunteer@heinzetrust.org or c all us at 219-242-8558 or sign up online at http://www.heinzetrust.org/volunteer-workdays.html

Directions to site :
From I-94, take I-65 south to Ridge Rd/E. 37th Ave. Drive east on E. 37th Ave. about 2.5 miles to Lake Park Ave. Turn right (south) on Lake Park for about ½ mile to the parking lot on the right (west) side of the road.
