About the event: The Atlanta Habitat ReStore has been chosen to receive donated products from the ACE Hardware trade show at the Georgia World Congress Center. The ReStore sells new and gently used furniture, home accessories, building materials, and appliances at a fraction of the retail price. Each time someone donates, shops or volunteers at the ReStore, they are helping Atlanta Habitat for Humanity transform communities through neighborhood revitalization, education, innovative development and partnerships. In 2016, the Restore sales allowed us to build nine new homes!

The ACE Hardware show will be a huge source of donations for the ReStore, as the event is a huge undertaking, with hundreds of vendors.

Where: Volunteers will meet in Exhibit Hall B at the Georgia World Congress Center in downtown Atlanta. More details about meeting location will be emailed closer to the event.

Volunteer Tasks: We will be shrink-wrapping, packing, and sorting donated items onto pallets. You will be working in a team with other volunteers and staff.

Other Info: There will be some heavy lifting required. You must wear closed shoes. Snacks and drinks will be provided throughout the shift.

Mission Statement

Atlanta Habitat for Humanity transforms communities by acting as a catalyst for neighborhood revitalization through education, innovative development, partnerships, and long term relationships with families.

Description

Since 1983, Atlanta Habitat has built more than 1,450 homes in the City of Atlanta and Fulton County, housing approximately 5,000 individual family members.

Atlanta Habitat spends approximately 85 cents of every dollar on construction and homeowner programs and services.

Families must qualify to purchase an Atlanta Habitat home by being a first time homebuyer, having a household of 2-8 people, proving steady income and good credit, and having lived or worked in the City of Atlanta or surrounding counties for at least one year. Atlanta Habitat builds with families who are unable to purchase homes on the open market because their incomes- typically 30-50% of area median- do not qualify them for traditional financing.

Homebuyers lease their houses for the first year, during which they are required to contribute 250 hours of "sweat equity" on their home and others, make timely payments, care for the property, and attend 12 Homeowner Education classes through Atlanta Habitat.

After this lease period, homebuyers assume a 25-30 year no profit, no interest mortgage. Average monthly payments include property taxes, pest control, homeowner's insurance, and a maintenance savings account.

Mortgage payments from current Homeowners go directly to furthering our mission.
