Skills for Life Description
Learning to Work is the key interface that engages and manages proven local businesses to deliver a series of workshops to ensure students are fully prepared for their Work Experience week. The lively and interactive workshops run on a carousel basis so a cohort of students are equally divided into groups of 25-30 and spend 25 minutes or so in each work shop. These can be tailored but frequently comprise the following:-
Interview Techniques which raisesawareness of what is appropriate during an interview, what an employer may be expecting and the chance to practise or observe an interview.
Dress to Impress which reinforces the need to wear suitable clothing in the workplace, what impression you make by your clothing choices and what is deemed appropriate varies across different industries (we have use of mannequins for this workshop)
Customer Service which providesstudents with ideas and help on good customer service practices and using or answering the telephone.
Working with People highlights that there comes a time in everyone’s life when they have to work successfully alongside people with different ideas, backgrounds, race, age, sex, religion and how to manage this.
Health & Safety critically pinpointshealth and safety issues that students may come across whilst on placement and how to manage them.
