The expansive Cuyama River, near the Dick Smith Wilderness will be full of riparian wonder; wide, but with little water this time of year. We'll make base camp Saturday morning (optional), then head out day hiking along the river bed looking for invasive tamarisk plants. When found, we'll treat the bottom few inches of bark with herbicide, and move on to the next one.

It's easy work in a relatively flat area without a trail. We'll head back in the late afternoon to enjoy a delish community feast and camp out under the starry night sky (optional).

The second day, we'll enjoy and excursion hike before working a few hours, heading out in the early afternoon for an early arrival home. This a great trip if you like to hike while removing invasive species from this special riparian habitat.

Bring your Spirit of Adventure and basic camping gear!

Habitat Works Volunteers have been removing tamarisk on over 307 miles of watershed since 2003.
