Lagoon Shoreline Cleanup event

ORGANIZATION: Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation

Help cleanup a portion of coastal trail along the Agua Hedionda Lagoon. This trail is located directly on the shoreline, and is a beautiful place to help protect the lagoon. We will be repairing a concrete seawall, removing overgrown vegetation, picking up trash, and performing general trail maintenance. AHLF staff members will lead different work groups. Please bring a reusable water bottle and proper attire for trail work (long pants, close-toed shoes, and plenty of sunscreen). All age groups are welcome, but anyone under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent/guardian before or at the event. LOAs and volunteer documentation can be provided at the event. Directions:
From I5, exit Tamarack and head East
Turn right at Highland Drive
Make a slight left on Hillside Drive
Turn right on Park Drive
Turn right on Cove Drive and follow until the end at the cul de sac
Look for the trailhead sign and walk towards the water
Parking is available along the street on Cove Drive and Park Drive

Mission Statement

The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation (AHLF) was established as a non-profit corporation in 1990 to conserve, restore and enhance the environmental features of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon, marsh, wetlands, and watershed areas. The AHLF operates the lovely Lagoon Discovery Center at 1580 Cannon Road in Carlsbad, where they holds numerous environmental educational programming every year.

Description

The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation's objective is to:

-Advocate for the lagoon, promoting and assuring future lagoon vitality

-Promote balanced recreational and commercial uses of the lagoon and wetlands

-Provide strong support for public access, trails and recreational opportunities

-Develop and promote, through The Lagoon Discovery Center, educational programs to enhance community and visitor awareness and understanding of water resource and watershed-related environmental issues.
