The Chess Club gives youth (currently youngest participant is 7) an opportunity to study & play friendly games of chess against their peers. The Club needs a couple of additional adult volunteers to coach players. You can be a novice yourself--you just need an interest in chess, a willingness to learn, and a patient, encouraging manner with youth--although experienced players are of course welcome!
The Club meets regularly on Saturdays from 1-3 p.m. at the Excelsior branch of the San Francisco Public Library, plus there are occasional tournaments at nearby library locations.
We ask for at least a year's commitment for volunteers. (Youth participation is on a drop-in basis, so if you need to miss the occasional Saturday, that can be accomodated.)
