Edna St. Vincent Millay

The Edna St. Vincent Millay Society at Steepletop, a National Historic Landmark in Austerlitz NY, is looking for enthusiastic and friendly volunteers to join our team. Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community, meet new people and share your love of historic sites, literature and gardens.

  • Our volunteers staff the gift shop, conduct tours of Pulitzer Prize winning poet, Edna St. Vincent Millay’s house and grounds, maintain Steepletop’s gardens, lead hikes into the beautiful surrounding landscape, and assist with events and special projects.
  • No matter what your schedule or skills, there is a place for you at Steepletop. Volunteers are needed both weekdays and weekends (April-Oct). You can help out once a week to once a month. All our volunteers receive personalized onsite training. And prior knowledge or experience is not necessary.

Now is the time to join the fun and fascinating group of people who make Steepletop come alive. To learn more, please phone us at 518-392-3362 or email martha@millay.org

About THE EDNA ST VINCENT MILLAY SOCIETY

Location:

PO BOX 2, AUSTERLITZ, NY 12017, US

Mission Statement

The Society's mission is to illuminate the life and writings of Edna St. Vincent Millay and to preserve and interpret the character of Steepletop, her home and gardens, places where nature inspires the creative spirit.

Description

The Edna St. Vincent Millay Society preserves the Pulitzer Prize winning poet's legacy and her large body of work. The Society oversees the restoration and preservation of Millay's home, Steepletop, a peaceful place where Millay could write and a social gathering spot that her friends-writers, musicians, and others-could enjoy. Today, the 250 acre property includes Millay's beloved house, gardens and grounds including Millay's writing cabin where she wrote some of her most beautiful nature poems, an outdoor bar next to the swimming pool (where Millay and her guests swam au naturel), and a poetry trail which winds through the woods to Millay’s final resting place. The historic site is accessible to the public through tours, educational programs and events.
