On March 3rd 2017, Jumpstart will be hosting an event at Portola Family Connections in celebration of Read Across America Day. Read Across America Day is a national celebration of reading and learning held every year on Dr. Seuss's birthday. At this celebration, program staff will host a reading of The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss and volunteers will support a variety of interactive learning stations for 45 children and families.
This is a great way for individuals or small groups to engage with the children and families of their communities in a fun way while also promoting early literacy and a love for reading!

Mission Statement
Jumpstart is a national early education organization working toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed.
Description
Jumpstart aims to close the gap in educational achievement between children from low-income communities and their wealthier peers, before that gap appears. In pursuit of this goal, Jumpstart recruits and trains college students, called Corps members, to help preschool-aged children in low-income neighborhoods develop the language, literacy, and social skills they need to succeed in kindergarten and beyond. Jumpstart inspires children to learn, young adults to teach and lead, families to become more involved in their children’s education, and communities to progress together.
