The North Carolina Science Olympiad hosts regional science tournaments amoung schools with the top teams advancing to the state championships in Raleigh at NC State.
Over 950 teams participated last year with more expected this year. As we grow we need more volunteers so that we can host more regional tournaments and not have to turn teams away.
This regional tournamnt is for the elementary schools in the sorrounding counties. It is held at Saint Stephens High School in Hickory. Vounteers of all skill levels are needed as the opportunities range from team registration to judging a bridge competition and offering encouragement and advice for next year to the teams. Mission Statement
North Carolina Science Olympiad (NCSO) is a nonprofit organization with the mission to attract and retain the pool of K-12 students entering science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) degrees and careers in North Carolina. Every year NCSO hosts tournaments on university, community college, and public school campuses across the state. These tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of different hands-on, interactive, challenging and inquiry-based events that are well balanced between the various disciplines of biology, earth science, environmental science, chemistry, physics, engineering and technology.
Description
Thank you so much for your interest in the North Carolina Science Olympiad. We are always looking for good people to volunteer to help us run tournaments, create events, develop curriculum, send out mailings, be event leaders, and spread the word about the NCSO. We cannot exist without volunteers. They are our lifeline! We rely on their donations of time, money, and supplies to continue to offer the services we provide. Opportunities for involvement at many levels exist across the state of North Carolina.
