Students Competing

The NC Science Olympiad is a non-profit organization that conducts annual science tournaments among elementary, middle and high school students from over 1000 schools and growing. We start with regional tournaments with the top teams moving on to the state championships in Raleigh at NC State.

We continue to grow and need more volunteers at our regional tournaments so that we do not need to turn children away. The volunteer opportunities range from registering the teams, selling snacks to judging the hover car competition.

Volunteers of all skill sets are needed, to either lead, assist or just provide a set of hands for each event and for score keeping, set up, clean up and even creating the specific challenge in a category. Science Olympiad Alumni are especially welcomed back to help make this tournament a special event for the next generation of Science and Technology professionals.

Mission Statement

North Carolina Science Olympiad (NCSO) is a nonprofit organization with the mission to attract and retain the pool of K-12 students entering science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) degrees and careers in North Carolina. Every year NCSO hosts tournaments on university, community college, and public school campuses across the state. These tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of different hands-on, interactive, challenging and inquiry-based events that are well balanced between the various disciplines of biology, earth science, environmental science, chemistry, physics, engineering and technology.

Description

Thank you so much for your interest in the North Carolina Science Olympiad. We are always looking for good people to volunteer to help us run tournaments, create events, develop curriculum, send out mailings, be event leaders, and spread the word about the NCSO. We cannot exist without volunteers. They are our lifeline! We rely on their donations of time, money, and supplies to continue to offer the services we provide. Opportunities for involvement at many levels exist across the state of North Carolina.
