Walk MS 2016

Position Summary:

Produce creative, high-quality, unique photographs for use by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in print and online. This is a wonderful opportunity for a student, semi-professional or aspiring professional photographer who would like to build a portfolio while donating their creativity, time and talents to a local nonprofit agency. This volunteer will work independently at the event and report to a Chapter staff member.

Responsibilities:

  • Using your own equipment, take creative photographs of teams, riders and volunteers participating in Walk MS
  • Obtain fresh, passionate, inspiring images of both event participants and volunteers
  • Provide high resolution electronic versions of all photos to the Chapter
  • Attend pre-event call or meeting with Chapter staff to discuss event
  • Check in with Chapter staff as needed

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate strong photographic ability by providing examples of work with application
  • Creativity and desire to assemble a body of work that is varied, dynamic and interesting
  • Ability to communicate respectfully with event participants and staff
  • Willingness to approach participants and volunteers to encourage photo opportunities
  • Must be creative, innovative and interested in taking photographs during all or part of a the event
  • Must provide your own digital SLR* camera and transportation
    • Memory card for use during this assignment will be provided by the Chapter. Memory card will be given to the Chapter at the close of the volunteer’s shift.
  • Must be comfortable photographing people in a wide variety of environments in multiple locations.

Benefits:

The volunteer position will provide an opportunity for creative photographic work providing invaluable experience working as a freelance photographer with a professional agency. Photos will also be used for the National MS Society’s website and print media to promote Walk MS, with credit provided as possible.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society funds more MS research, offers more services to people with MS, provides more professional education programs and advances more MS advocacy efforts than any other MS organization in the world. Through its home office and fifty-state network of chapters, the National MS Society provides assistance to over a million people annually in its continuing mission to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis.

Seeking out and engaging volunteers to the MS cause is at the very core of our business. Each year the Society organizes a series of community events that provide many opportunities for the enthusiastic volunteer. The Society offers three key fundraising activities: The MS Bike Tour, MS Walk and MS Challenge Walk. The Society also engages volunteers to help influence law-makers at the federal, state and municipal levels toward legislation important to people with MS. The Society is looking for passionate volunteers with expertise in areas such as: marketing communications, public relations, corporate and donor development, medical, legal, administrative and organizational expertise.
