Eleanor's Garden is looking for certified pet therapy dogs to volunteer in helping our patients in their final journey of life. Interacting with an animal can provide wonderful physical and emotional benefits to our patients. Pet therapy dogs can help to reduce pain symptoms, reduce anxiety, increase relaxation, and provide comfort and companionship to our loved ones. Our volunteers are such an important part of our organization and we value all that you do for our patients!

The dog and handler will meet with patients who live in their home or in assisted living or nursing facilities throughout Langhorne, Yardley, Newtown, and surrounding areas.

To be eligible, the animal must be a certified Pet Therapy Dog, such as through the American Kennel Club (AKC). The dog must also be up-to-date on all vaccinations, be housebroken, and have no history of aggressive behavior.

We also provide free orientation and training to our (human) volunteers. Our training program gives our volunteers an overview of our patients needs, areas to pay attention to, and ways to provide support to the patient and family during end of life care.
