We are dedicated to retaining women in the technology workforce and increasing the number of women and girls pursuing technology-based careers. We facilitate hands-on technology-centric events to empower, support, and increase the confidence of women and girls. Through our events, ChickTech builds community, empowers participants to see themselves as leaders, and provides networking and mentoring opportunities in the rapidly growing high tech industry.
We are looking for a volunteer Chapter Volunteer Director for the local chapter of ChickTech. With the help of a volunteer management team, the Chapter Volunteer Director is responsible for building and maintaining a large pool of volunteers for events, workshops, and general chapter needs. This includes recruiting and training volunteers, ensuring all volunteers go through our background check process, working with team members to ensure they have adequate volunteers to carry out their tasks, and holding various volunteer events to encourage fun and team-building.
The perfect candidate for the Chapter Volunteer Director is a responsible and experienced people manager, has previous personal volunteer experience, is detail-oriented, and has a passion for empowering women.
Our ideal Chapter Volunteer Director candidate will have:
Experience with event planning and volunteer or staff management
Experience with either nonprofits and/or the tech field
Strong organizational and time management skills
Excellent problem solving skills
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
The ability to work in a collaborative style and move others to action by planning, motivating, and organizing work tasks
Excellent interpersonal skills that establish and maintain credibility and relationships
A drive to improve the experience of girls and women in technology
Key Chapter Volunteer Director responsibilities include:
Build and manage a volunteer management team as needed to help with job responsibilities
Interview, recruit, and organize volunteers
Organize and run volunteer orientations on a regular basis
Ensure that all volunteers are trained and background checked as needed
Ensure required volunteer forms/documents/waivers are collected, properly filled out and stored
Ensure that programs are adequately staffed with volunteers
Survey chapter and program leaders regularly to assess needs for volunteer assistance
Maintain volunteer job descriptions for each volunteer assignment
Organize and participate in volunteer recognition programs and special events
Create processes and documentation related to coordinating volunteers
Evaluate volunteer processes and procedures to ensure effectiveness and to recommend/implement changes as appropriate
Maintain accurate records and provide timely statistical and activity reports on volunteer participation
Answer volunteer questions as needed
Keep volunteers engaged and excited
Maintain database/spreadsheet with volunteer information and interests
Work with Communications Director to create and maintain a newsletter to keep volunteers informed of news and events with ChickTech

Expected time commitment: 5-10 hours/week, but this may vary. We ask that all leadership team members commit to one year of being on the team if possible, although less can be negotiated! Please be honest about your time commitments, while we realize it is difficult to forecast what you may be doing four or five months out, we ask potential leadership team members to try their best to upfront with any conflicts, either work or personal. ChickTech is a multi-generational community helping each other become technology creators. We facilitate hands-on technology-centric events and mentorship to empower, support, and increase the confidence of girls, women, and non-binary folks. Through our programs, we build community, empower participants to see themselves as leaders, and provide networking and mentoring opportunities in the rapidly growing tech industry.
As a mostly volunteer-run non-profit, we are always searching for partners who would like to get involved through donations of expertise, volunteer time, in-kind, funding, or just by helping to get the word out.
