ORGANIZATION: PAN-AFRICAN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE INC

We are looking for an Event coordinator(s) to help organize and execute our organization's outdoor event on April 29th. We are open to two people sharing this role, if need be but would prefer one person. We would prefer a person certified in the planning industry but are open to an individual with unofficial experience planning events. We would especially welcome a spouse of a person with a Green card or work permit that is looking for work to stay busy as it is close to our mission as an organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

The following are the event planner’s job duties and responsibilities:

  • Preparing the event
  • Working with the event budget
  • Developing the event theme
  • Selecting the décor to be used at the event
  • Arranging the event décor, tents, tables and chairs
  • Making transportation arrangements
  • Recruting vendors for the event
  • Managing and supervising contractors, caterers and other staff
  • Effectively arranging the décor
  • Ensuring the event meets all health, safety and building standards
  • Liaising with the client to ensure that the event is successful

Skills and Specifications

For an event planner to be able to perform his/her duties effectively, certain skills are required. The following are some of the important event planner skills and specifications:

  • Works well under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Excellent management and organization skills
  • Should be passionate about event planning
  • A team player with excellent negotiation skills
  • Deadline oriented with good attention to detail
  • Ability to speak French and/or Spanish preferred

Education and Qualifications

A degree or working on a degree in event management is adequate for this position. Public relations, marketing and project management skills are also important. As said before, unofficial event planning experience (like an event for your church/mosque) will also be considered.

To promote the economic stability and and independence of African immigrants and other disenfranchised communities in New York, and to support the chartering of the Pan-African Federal Credit Union ("Pan-African FCU").

Description

Purpose Pan-African CDI was founded in 2013 to help combat poverty and underemployment in the African immigrant community in New York, and to help organize the Pan-African Federal Credit Union. Who we serve The Bronx is the poorest borough in New York City with a median income of $27,611, and 79.65% of its residents (96% in our proposed field of membership) are low or moderate income, according to the American Community Survey (5 Year in 2011), Median Family Income Listing in 2011. Bronx households are 28.7% likely to be unbanked (Citywide Financial Services Study by Social Compact, 2009); this is more than double the City average of 13.4% (far above the national average of 7.7%). The Bronx is also home to the largest concentration of African immigrants in the entire United States, amounting to over 60,000 residents (U.S. Census Bureau, 2010).
