Did you know you can transform a Hispanic child's life by helping him or her learn to read? Kindergarten children who come from homes where English is not spoken are at a distinct disadvantage when learning to read. Our One-on-One Tutoring has a real impact! And no special skills or knowledge of Spanish are required, just a love for reading and talking to a child. We are seeking volunteers who are available for 60 to 90 minutes during the school day on Mondays through Thursdays. By working with a child either once or twice a week, you will help them learn to read, gain confidence in speaking English, build their vocabulary and develop their comprehension skills. We are using "Teach your child to Read in 100 Easy lessons" by Siegfried Engelmann, Phyllis Haddox, and Elaine Bruner. The book provides a step by step program that our volunteers have found to be both easy to use and effective. Just an hour of your time once a week will make an amazing difference to a child!
