Family Promise of Butler County is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to helping alleviate homelessness within the Greater Butler County area- we offer a day center to get families that we drug screen and background check off the streets while also partnering with the Interfaith Hospitality Network as a way to get churches involved to give our clients places to sleep at night. Along with this sheltering, we offer support services that might empower the families we help pull themselves out of poverty. Support services like tenancy programs, resume and interview craft shops, financial literacy courses, among other types of soft skills that might teach them how to fish, so to speak, as opposed to just giving them a fish.
Title/Position: Volunteer Furniture Mover
Duties/Expectations: One big issue we have is we get a ton of donations in terms of actual furniture. Sometimes we have to put it in our facilities until our families move out, other times we need to pick up the furniture and take it to our families’ new houses.
- Pick up furniture and transport it to different areas within Butler County (usually directly to our families’ houses or to our day center)
- Transport furniture and services and act professionally on our behalf
Time Commitment: We require at least once a year that you can help one of our families move out by either being a loader (someone to help another person pick up and haul the furniture), or by being able to pick up the furniture yourself. This being said, there isn’t much of a time commitment, we are wanting to add you to our database of volunteers willing to help our families move so that you can sign up for your own availability per each individual move.
Location: Family Promise of Butler County, the third Floor of the Presbyterian Church at 19 S Front Street Hamilton, OH 45011
Qualifications and requirements: Have a truck or a trailer and a hitch, be able to lift over 40lbs- if you have a son, neighbor, or friend that would be willing to help us too, anything is greatly appreciated!
Benefits: You can make a difference of hundreds of homeless families that go through our programs and are affiliated with other nonprofits we may be partnering with. You can grow in your own skills and be an advocate for change. And we can provide letters of recommendation or logs of volunteer hours if need be.
How to apply/Contact Information: To apply or for more information, feel free to contact James Mills at (513) 807-9060 or shoot him an email at millsjamesfp@gmail.com

About Family Promise of Butler County
Location:

Mission Statement
Our Mission- to address the needs of children and families who are homeless in Butler County by providing shelter, meals, and comprehensive support services. These support services help us enable them, by helping us establish contacts and connections in the area with potential landlords for affordable housing opportunities and potential employers for job opportunities.
Description
How it works- Local Agencies screen guests and refer families to the network, guests are then screened for active substance abuse and psychiatric problems.
Day Center- Guests use the day center from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM to shower, care for pre-school children, do laundry, and seek job and housing options in the area. This provides guests with a mailing address and a home base from which to conduct their housing search.
At Night- Family Promise partners with the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) to host and provide dinners our guests at night so that they are off the streets at all points of the day.
