On Wednesday, April 26, Thursday, April 27 and Friday, April 28, 2017 volunteers from Target and the community will build a great new place for kids to play. The project is in partnership with KaBOOM!, the national nonprofit dedicated to giving kids the childhood they deserve by bringing play to those who need it most.

Please join us and help bring play to the special education students of Hester and the children of the local community.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Walden West Science Center is to immerse students in the world of science and inspire environmental stewardship. Our goals are to: Provide a residential science camp experience for 5th and 6th grade students. Provide a setting that encourages personal growth, emotional maturity and respect for others across all demographic backgrounds.

Description

Walden West Outdoor School is operated by the Santa Clara County Office of Education . We provide environmental science education for 5th and 6th graders in a residential camp setting. Visiting schools come for a 4-5 day program where the students explore an outdoor classroom with experienced naturalists and stay in cabins overnight. We focus on teaching state science standards through hands-on learning while exposing students to new social settings, getting them outside, and providing them with new experiences. Students leave the program with a new sense of personal responsibility, independence and understanding of the natural world around them.
