Mission Statement

Surg+Restore's mission is to establish Sierra Leone's first and only Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burn Center, with the ultimate goal of having the Center become self-sustaining within 10 years.

Description

Surg+Restore was formed and given 501(c)(3) status as a charitable non-profit organization in January 2013. Surg+Restore works in partnership with ReSurge/Africa, a Scottish non-profit. We work one-on-one in medical centers in Sierra Leone, West Africa with local doctors, nurses, therapists and lab technicians to establish a self-sustaining Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burn center.

Surg+Restore’s founder and President, Dr. Robert Scott Brown MD MPH, accompanied medical teams from the United Kingdom to Makeni, Sierra Leone on five occasions. DR. BROWN REALIZED THAT SIERRA LEONE NOT ONLY LACKED ANY SPECIALTY TRAINED SURGEONS BUT NOT A SINGLE ANESTHESIOLOGIST WAS PRACTICING THE COUNTRY. Surg+Restore was formed with the mission to fund qualified physicians from Sierra Leone to complete a certified anesthesia residency program and return to serve their country's first and only Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burn Center with the ultimate goal of enabling this department to become self-sufficient.

Currently 90% of Surg+Restore funds are directed to forming, financing, training and educating native Sierra Leonean medical personnel to establish and maintain a sustainable Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burn Center in Makeni, Sierra Leone.
