About Our Program:

The Best Friends Animal Society - Los Angeles foster program places dogs and cats into tem

porary homes until they are ready to be adopted into permanent homes. Our foster program focuses on three types of foster care:

• neonatal animals, including underage kittens, puppies, and moms with unweaned litters

• adult animals recovering from medical illnesses, injuries, or need socialization

• adoption-eligible adult animals that need time away from the shelter

Time Commitment and Locations:

• Foster activities last from 2 days - 6 months, depending on the needs of the animal and the type of foster activity

• Our main location is Best Friends Pet Adoption Center & Spay/Neuter Clinic in Mission Hills, 15321 Brand Blvd, Mission Hills CA 91345

• We also offer select foster appointments at our NKLA Pet Adoption Center in West LA, 1845 Pontius Ave, Los Angeles CA 90025

Core responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the foster, medical, and adoptions teams to help promote animals for adoption and/or assist in getting animals ready to be placed up for adoption

• Provide the day-to-day care required for that animal (feeding, cleaning, etc.)

• Provide feedback on an animal’s medical and behavioral health in an honest and objective manner

• Abide by all program rules as set forth by the foster program coordinators

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Reliable transportation

• Access to phone/email and the internet

• Basic supplies (such as food, cat litter, dog crates, etc.) can be provided by Best Friends

How to get started:

Fostering is an integral part of our work and we would not be able to rescue as many animals as we do without the help of our dedicated foster volunteers!

Step one to volunteering with the foster program is to attend a foster orientation. During this orientation, you will learn about the different types of fosters available as well as what to expect as a foster.
