ORGANIZATION: L.A. Works

What: Help shape the life of a high school student by creating an atmosphere where students can discuss and learn about the various mental health and social justice issues impacting their lives in a unique and artistic way. * Design and create activities for 15 high school students and their mentors: * Yearly fieldtrip * Workshops * Luncheons (ETC.) * Act as the liaison between school staff, volunteer mentors, and students * Create online marketing and outreach strategies for volunteer mentor recruitment * Build content for mentor newsletter * Facilitate monthly mentor workshops

About: Los Angeles High School of the Arts (LAHSA) at the RFK Community Schools Complex is located in the heart of Koreatown. This LAUSD school serves 410 students many who come from first generation immigrant families of Latino and/or Korean descent. LAHSA strives to develop a rich academic and artistic community that inspires students to be independent and cooperative young adults who meet challenges with creativity and determination.

Requirements: * Attend a mentor Training. * We ask that volunteers make a 10-month (August 2016 - May 2017) commitment to serve 2-4 hours per week. Schedule will be very flexible however, candidates must be available for 2 hours on specific Wednesdays of the month. * Candidates would ideally volunteer for 10 months (the duration of the mentor program).
