2016 CMP Gala

CMP is a long standing nonprofit located in lower Manhattan. By providing language classes, skill trainings, workshops, and other activities to new immigrants, Asian Americans, and low-income individuals, we aim to help people fulfill their potentials and become financially self-sufficient.

We are now seeking volunteers for our 45 th Anniversary Gala at Capitale (130 Bowery Street) on Thursday, April 27 th. We need volunteers to help with silent auction, either help prepare description (April 1 st - April 26 th), set up items (April 27 th, 12pm-4pm, lunch will be provided), and cover silent auction section during the event (April 27 th, 5:00pm - 10pm, a light supper before event time will also be provided). You can choose whichever fits your interests and time, or you can chose all of them.

We are also looking for volunteer photographers who can be there from 5pm - 10pm to help record this inspiring eveningļ¼

Please note: Event day volunteers must be at least 21 years old with fluent English conversation skill.

Mission Statement

CMP provides vocational training, employment services, educational programs and economic development opportunities to disadvantaged Asian Americans and refugees living in New York City. In collaboration with public and private funding sources, CMP helps individuals of all ages-from children to seniors-increase their opportunities to succeed in their new environment.

Description

Founded in 1972 to deliver job training to Chinese immigrants, CMP has over time extended its reach to new constituencies and expanded its offerings to include vocational training in various professions, career counseling and job placement, high-tech computer training, distance-learning and entrepreneurial training. In its early days, CMP offered English lessons and keypunch instructions in a single room of a Chinatown church. Today it offers more than 15 programs for people with diverse backgrounds and aspirations. Headquartered in the top three floors of a former school building on the corner of Mulberry and Bayard, with a satellite office's on Canal Street and Sunset Park Brooklyn, CMP currently serves more than 1,600 people a year.
