We need volunteers to help our organization run a successful charity 5K event on April 15th, 2017!
Our event will donate all the proceeds to Be The Match, a nonprofit dedicated to providing bone marrow transplants to cancer patients when appropriately matched. Be The Match also holds the largest bone marrow registry. We are also holding this event in honor of a local Woodbridge resident, who has found a donor match through Be The Match.
Volunteers can be of any age! If you are 13 and older (and have parental consent if under 18), you are eligible to volunteer. Those younger than 13 need to have a parent, guardian, or mature older family or friend with them.
- Local Planning Committee (weekly meetings, planning race logistics)

Mission Statement
Our nonprofit organization recruits bone marrow donors using swabbing drives for Be The Match's national registry so blood cancer patients in need of transplants can get matched to a transplant donor. In addition, we also fundraise and donate proceeds to Be The Match so patients can afford transplants and treatments. Every four minutes someone is diagnosed with a life threatening blood disease like leukemia, lymphoma, or sickle cell anemia. For many, the only chance for a cure is a marrow transplant from someone outside their family. We also raise awareness and funds through fundraiser efforts. Every dollar to Be The Match helps more patients afford transplant, adds potential marrow donors to the Be The Match Registry and funds their life-saving research.
Description
Since its inception in 2013, Give A Spit has added 80+ donors to Be The Match's registry and that number still continues to grow. Originally a self-project modeled after DoSomething.org's campaign, "Give A Spit About Cancer", the project has evolved into a nonprofit club at Amity Regional High School and continues to uphold its mission in a variety of ways.
