Volunteer Instructor
ORGANIZATION: TECH FOUNDRY INC
Please visit the new page to apply.
Tech Foundry is currently looking for volunteers to teach classes on specific technical skills. Our organization works with a variety of people interested in pursuing a career in the IT field, ranging from local Community College students to those looking for a career change. Our typical student is between 20 and 40, from the Springfield area, and is new to the IT field. During the program, students receive instruction from local volunteers, complete an internship with a local employer, and develop their professional network. We connect with a multitude of employer partners who help us develop our curriculum so that we are only teaching the skills being sought in the field. Upon completion of the program, Tech Foundry works to place our students into entry level jobs in the area.
Our curriculum covers a large range of skills, including programming, hardware repair, network setup, data analysis, and more. We are currently looking for IT professionals, graduate students, or hobbyists in the area who would be interested in volunteering to teach classes. This program runs Monday-Friday from 12:30-5:00. Classes typically run for about 90 minutes and we are looking for volunteers to teach anywhere from one session to multiple sessions throughout the 14 week program. Tech Foundry runs three programs a year starting in January, May, and September.
More information about the program and the specific curriculum can be provided to those interested!

Mission Statement
Founded by concerned area employers who saw a dramatic need for a skilled IT workforce, Tech Foundry is on a mission to build the most dynamic and fluid IT workforce development and training programs ever created. Driven by specific employer demands, we combine hands-on skill focused technical training with professional development, which aids us in our overarching duty to elevate an under-served, at-risk population into tomorrow’s IT workforce.
Description
Tech Foundry is turning workforce development on its head by taking a top-down approach to IT training. We utilize a groundbreaking employer partnership program that translates their open IT positions into a list of specific and quantifiable skills that can be taught and measured. Volunteers from partner organizations take the time to help teach the specific skills that matter most to them in candidates. Through the combination of training, mentoring, soft skills development and internship placement, Tech Foundry is able to take a group of students, who otherwise had little to no IT experience when they started and mold them into the job-seekers that employers are looking to hire. Call it common sense, call it stacking the deck, but we make sure that each student learns the technical concepts and skills that are most in demand in the local economy.
