The DREAM Project is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides high-quality educational opportunities to children, youth and families in the Dominican Republic (DR). Our transformative education programs respond to gaps in the national education system and empower at-risk children and youth to create a better future for themselves and their families. Through innovative approaches to literacy, early childhood education, youth leadership, music instruction and community support, DREAM promotes critical thinking and independence to enrich lives and strengthen sustainable communities.

DREAM believes in holistic community development that begins with access to high-quality education, from early childhood to primary school and beyond. We realize that education is just one piece of the puzzle to end extreme poverty in the Dominican Re-public. Through our community programs, we provide additional services, including birth registrations and documentation, psychological intervention and training, summer enrichment and crisis response.

Position Summary: The Psychology Fellow will assist the DREAM Project in the Psychology department. The Fellow will predominantly support public school students but also teachers and care providers. Provide insightful and creative solutions to challenges currently faced by students, teachers and care providers in order to strengthen the Psychology Department.


Primary Responsibilities :

  • Support the DREAM Psychologist with setting specific educational plans and providing other psychosocial support to students, youth and adults (parents/care providers and teachers).
  • Organize and facilitate workshops to parents/care providers and give trainings to teachers.
  • Manage classroom observations to supervise the specific educational plan for neurodiverse students.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work or related field
  • Work or internship experience with children ages 3-7 with typical or atypical development
  • Strong social commitment
  • Well developed social skills to interact with groups and individuals
  • Strong observation skills
  • Advanced Spanish skills (oral and written proficiency)
  • High level of professionalism and integrity
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities with minimal supervision
  • Prior experience working in an intercultural environment and developing country preferred

Costs : DREAM Fellows are expected to pay a Fellowship fee, which will be stated in your acceptance letter. The average cost to DREAM for supporting a Fellow in Cabarete is $1,000/month and depending on applicant’s experience DREAM covers large parts of the expenses. Applicants of Dominican descent may apply for a full Fellowship offered by the DREAM Board. (2 per year.) Please note that the Fellowship fee does not include airfare, health insurance or Dominican Immigration fees, such as exit fees for stays over 30 days. Option to fundraise to cover the fee is available. Included in your participation as a Fellow is work-related transportation, housing, cultural excursions, workshops, a local cell phone with SIM card and a monthly per diem.
