Experience Corps DC, a program of the AARP Foundation, is currently recruiting volunteers who are 50 year of age and above for the 2021-22 school year. Tutors assist students K to 3rd grade who are currently reading below grade level yet striving to reach grade level proficiency before the end of third grade. Introduce the love of reading to elementary age students and give them the tools to succeed. Tutoring takes place during the school day at the tutor's assigned school. Ongoing training and support are provided. Due to COVID-19 volunteers will be prepared to start the school year tutoring virtually. We do anticipate volunteers returning into the schools, tutoring students face-to-face by year's end.

During 2020-21 due to COVID - 19 AARP Foundation Experience Corps DC pivoted the program by serving several schools and students virtually. While we can not fully anticipate what tutoring will look like during the 2021-22 school year, we are recruiting volunteers to begin the school year tutoring virtually with the anticipation and expectation that volunteers will return safely to the classrooms before the year's end.
