If you are age 55 or greater and your heart beats a little faster when you're surrounded by books, we have the perfect volunteer opportunity for you. Volunteers at Davis County Libraries learn the ins and outs of the library while assisting staff members.
Libraries located in Bountiful, Centerville, Farmington, Kaysville, Layton, Syracuse and Clearfield. Available opportunities, daytime and evening shifts, vary by location. Duties may include:
- Shelving - Everyone begins with picture books, paperbacks, fiction and then non-fiction
- Preparing materials for discard - Includes blacking out barcode & Davis Co. stamp, stamping with discard stamp, removing Mylar cover & recycling
- Cutting out materials and preparation work for story times and other children's programming
- Organizing and cleaning shelves - straightening, finding books on recall lists, dusting, etc.
- Miscellaneous tasks as they arise
Volunteers must be able to lift up to 30 lbs and tasks may require bending and reaching in order to retrieve and shelve books.
This opportunity is offered through Davis Co. Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and is for people age 55 or better. As an RSVP member, you are eligible for mileage reimbursement for travel between home and the volunteer site as well as supplemental insurance coverage while in service.

Description
Americans 55+ have a lifetime of experience to share and the desire to make a real difference in their world. Members of this mature generation have managed households, been business owners and nurses, farmers and salespeople, artists and executives. Now they are ready to put their unique talents and expertise to work in their communities, and enrich their own lives in the process.
RSVP is the connection to aid volunteers in choosing how and where to serve, time of service, causes to support, and how to get started. RSVP provides pre-service orientation, training from the organization where service is given, supplemental insurance while on duty, and, in some cases, a mileage reimbursement to cover the cost of travel between home and the volunteer site.
When you volunteer, you're not just helping others - you're helping yourself. Volunteering leads to new discoveries and new friends. Plus, studies show that volunteering helps you live longer and promotes a positive outlook on life.
