Landscape Architect Volunteer - Charles River Valley

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: The Trustees of Reservations

Opportunity Overview
The Trustees was founded in 1891 by landscape architect Charles Eliot (a student and associate of Fredrick Law Olmstead) to protect the best of the Massachusetts landscape for the enjoyment of the public. Carrying on in this tradition, the Charles River Valley Management Unit is seeking talented and experienced individuals with a background in landscape architecture to have a lasting impact on the physical character of our reservations. Individuals should be licensed within their field, and be able to provide references if requested. The majority of this work will be carried out individually with opportunities to assist with or lead projects, in collaboration with Trustees’ staff or volunteers.

Projects may include improving visitor circulation and flow at conservation land and farms, designing pollinator and/or native plant gardens, and creating outdoor natural playscapes for children.

This position will be based at Powisset Farm in Dover, the management unit’s headquarters/workshop for the Charles River Valley. Powisset Farm is a thriving 109 acre farm with an active Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, oak forests, brooks, vernal pools, and wooded wetlands. It is adjacent to the 620 acre Trustees’ property, Noanet Woodlands. Projects may occur at one or more of the 17 properties managed from this location.

About The Trustees of Reservations

Location:

200 High Street, Boston, MA 02110, US

Mission Statement

The Trustees of Reservations is here to protect and share the Massachusetts places people love for their exceptional scenic, historic, and ecological value. For their trails, their history, their gardens, their beaches. For the simple reason that nature and culture can soothe the soul and improve our lives.

Description

Who We Are

We are more than 100,000 people like you who love the outdoors, who love the distinctive charms of New England, and who believe in celebrating and protecting them, for everyone, forever.

Together with our neighbors, we protect the distinct character of our communities and inspire a commitment to our special places. Our passion is to share with everyone the irreplaceable natural and cultural treasures we care for.

What We Do

We enjoy and care for more than 100 special places - nearly 25,000 acres - all around Massachusetts. And we are actively building an extended family of friends and neighbors across the state that can help in their different ways.

What We Are Up Against

Through more than 100 years of hard work and high standards, The Trustees have built a sterling reputation and a stunning physical legacy.

Today, the places we care about are going fast, and the forces undermining them, including climate change, are moving faster. We need to tap the wellspring of people’s joy - in their communities, their heritage, and the natural world - and mobilize a whole new generation to care.
