THE EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED ON 3/12


Sunday, March 15th, 20020 marks the date of the 20th Annual Santa Barbara Regional Basketball Tournament at the UCSB Thunderdome Events Center. Three local teams from Special Olympics Santa Barbara will be joined by 40 other basketball teams, making this event the largest single-sport tournament hosted anywhere in Special Olympics Southern California. Athletes from San Luis Obispo, Santa Maria, Lompoc, Ventura, Santa Clarita and Burbank will be represented at the tournament. 51 basketball games will be played throughout the course of the tournament, utilizing all 6 courts of the UCSB Thunderdome Events Center.

Volunteers are needed to help with scorekeeping, lunch distribution, court monitoring, setting up/breaking down, and cheering on our athletes from all over Southern California!!!

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with an intellectual disability, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Description

The Santa Barbara Special Olympics is a non-profit organization that allows people with developmental disabilites within the Santa Barbara community to participate in year-round athletic competition. We offer several sports that our athletes can participate in free of charge.
