Position Summary:

Provide quality 15 and 30 minute massages to Challenge Walk MS participants. This is an ideal opportunity for a student or a licensed professional massage therapist looking to gain experience while donating their services, time and talents to a local nonprofit agency. The volunteer will work with a team of massage therapists at Challenge Walk MS and report to a Chapter representative.

Responsibilities:

• Using your own equipment and portable table, provide massage service to riders participating in Challenge Walk MS.
• Check in with massage team lead and Chapter staff as needed

• Speak with riders about symptoms, medical history, and desired results
• Evaluate riders to locate painful or tense areas of the body
• Manipulate muscles or other soft tissues of the body
• Provide particapants with guidance on stretching, strengthening, hydration and overall relaxation

Qualifications:

• Demonstrate massage therapy practical skills and knowledge by providing state license or current enrollment in an accredited program
• Must provide portable massage table
• Ability to communicate respectfully with event participants and staff
• Ability to recognize when a client needs to be referred to a qualified medical professional for additional evaluation
• Physical stamina to carry out multiple treatments required
• Some knowledge of sports massage techniques preferred
